Riddle me this!

I am feared
I am celebrated
I am cold and still
I am thought of often
I will always happen

Most times a surprise
rarly waited on
can be wanted, but most dreed me
always at the end, but is never the end

take a wild guess!

Is Grendel Really a monster!?

I myself dont think Grendel is a monster. He has just grown up with a harsh mother and is continuously being pushed around by the king. There are moments where he does barbaric things, but there is always a sence of humanity in his actions. This is not to say that he didnt deserve to die. Grendel was not perfect. But who in this epic poem was? In my opinion every major chacter was a monster, at some point. For example, The privous king was a monster for having sex with grendels mom and liying to his towns people about it. Beowulf was a monster for having an alternate motive in mind for killing Grendel. Grendel was a monster for killing donzens of soliders as they slept. This poem although filled with heros and villains is not so much writen in black and white like most people would think.

My responce to Vladimir Nabokov's "Good Readers and Writers"

After reading the powerful passage by Nabokov, I find myself with a new found appreciation for writers. According to Nabokov all good writers must convey the skills of being a great storyteller, who can create an almost imaginary world with nothing but their words. I also value the wonderful skill of reading and will use his advice to build my reading skills and therefore becoming what he describes as a "good reader". But it is here where I and Nabokov's opinions on being a good reader differ.
I believe it is absolutely possible to be a good reader without having several of the skills Nabokov deemed essial. For example Nabokov says a good reader should be an author himself. I do not agree 100% with this, for good reason. I think a reader can grow to be an author himself, but I believe a reader can read without having any urge to write.
